Karl is a civil and commercial litigator with over 20 years of experience resolving disputes.
Karl has dealt with a range of property and construction related issues including building and design defects, sale and purchase disputes as well as disputes involving related professionals, such as solicitors, architects, developers and real estate agents.
He has a strong background in insurance litigation with experience dealing with most types of insurance policies including material damage, public liability, professional indemnity, life and health and business interruption. He has acted for both insurers and insureds regarding policy coverage issues and liability disputes. That experience includes building and construction issues arising from the weathertight homes crisis and earthquake insurance.
He has also advised and acted on estate claims, including claims under the Family Protection Act and relationship property disputes as well as commercial disputes including regarding the sale and purchase of businesses and shareholder disputes.
Karl brings bring a pragmatic, client-centred, approach to dispute resolution that focuses on the issues and outcomes that the client is looking to achieve, and the best method to achieve that. He endeavours to provide clients with sufficient information and advice about their options to enable them to make informed decisions about what course of action they ultimately want to take. That can range from negotiating an agreed outcome through to asking a Court or Tribunal to make a determination. He has appeared in the District Court, High Court and Court of Appeal as well as various Tribunals.
He has extensive experience in alternative dispute resolution methods including mediation.
Outside of work, his three young children keep him busy and he is a cricket tragic.
